Who can use it?
Shopmobility is a nationally recognised service providing powered scooters and other equipment enabling anyone with mobility problems to access their local shops, amenities and facilities.

Portsmouth Shopmobility was established in 2005. Initially funded by a National Lottery Grant it is currently supported by an Area Based Grant (ABG –government funding routed through Portsmouth City Council) and its own fee income. However, the ABG ends March 2011 and sponsors are being sought. Shopmobility is an attractive service to sponsors who are welcome to discuss how they might support the scheme and benefit from the publicity.

The Scheme operates from its Arundel Street location in the city centre, with easy access to shops, facilities, venues and other city attractions. It hires out powered scooters, power-chairs and manual wheelchairs* to members of the public with limited mobility in order for them to visit shops and leisure facilities within the city of Portsmouth.

* Note: there is no minimum age restriction on the use of manual wheelchairs.

• Residents and visitors alike are welcome to use the service
• Most hirings are on a daily basis but longer-term hirings are available
• Visitors can book a scooter for the duration of their holiday while residents may benefit from a longer hiring in certain situations.
• Membership of Shopmobility applies in all cases.

How Do I Join?
You need to show two separate forms of identification

• One must have your address i.e. utility bill
• One with your signature i.e. driving licence or passport

How Much Does It Cost?

• Annual Membership £8.00
• Members can then use any of the Wessex Group of Shopmobility schemes

Daily Hire:

• Scooter or Powerchair £3.50
• Manual Wheelchair £3.50

Weekend Hire:
Friday 12.00pm – Monday 12.00

• All Vehicles £10.00 (deposit required)

Weekly Hire:

• Scooter £30.00
• Collapsible Scooters £30.00 (Deposit £50.00)
• Manual Wheelchair £20.00 (Deposit £20.00)

Monday - Saturday 9.00 a.m. - 4.30 p.m.

Extended opening hours at Christmas and selected times of the year - watch out for details. Shopmobility attends several events throughout the year – if you need a scooter for an event, let us know.
